VideoFest continues tradition of screening the serious and the offbeat

You may have seen T-shirts around town urging residents of our fair burg to "Keep Dallas Normal." If you need any reminder of how absurd the sentiment might be, here's a good one:

Any city that has hosted and supported the Dallas Video Festival (now the VideoFest) for 22 years couldn't possibly be considered normal.

The city's longtime home for do-it-yourself storytelling, avant-garde shorts and timely, eccentric documentaries, the VideoFest runs Thursday through Sunday at the Angelika Film Center in Mockingbird Station. You want normal? On opening night you can top off an acclaimed documentary about the economic meltdown (American Casino, 7 p.m.) with an in-depth look at female orgasm (Orgasm Inc., 9 p.m.).

"It's a one-two punch," says festival director Bart Weiss, laughing. "The festival has always reflected the many interests I have, and I'm interested in a lot of things.
