SAN ANTONIO — The military psychiatrist who is being held in connection with the shooting deaths of 13 people at Fort Hood has been moved to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

A spokesperson said Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan was relocated under tight security via helicopter at about 3:30 p.m. Friday.

BAMC is a Level 1 trauma center. It is the highest-level Army hospital in the region, and it is considered the No. 2 Army hospital in the country, so, it's no surprise a high-profile suspect would be transferred there.

Witnesses said Hasan opened fire at the Soldier Readiness Center at Fort Hood on Thursday afternoon in a shooting rampage that left 13 dead. The 39-year-old was shot four times by civilian police officer Sgt. Kimberly Munley.

For several hours Thursday it was erroneously reported that Hasan had been killed.
