KILLEEN, Texas — People who knew Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan described him as a very quiet, shy man.
Neighbors told News 8 that earlier this week, Hasan began giving away personal items as though he was leaving his Killeen apartment and never coming back.
Patricia Villa knew her neighbor was preparing to depart. He gave her food, some of his clothing, furniture, and even the air mattress he had used as a bed.
Villa recalled a final conversation with Hasan. "I go, 'Oh, so you're leaving?' He goes, "Yes, on Friday."
Hasan also asked Villa to clean his apartment and gave her $60. Then he handed her a copy of The Holy Quran, the Muslim holy book.
"He told me that it was the new religion, or something like that," Villa said.
